During the capacity-building training for Lebanese university staff in Lebanon (15–20 September), experts from academia and industry explored how universities can better protect research, strengthen technology transfer, and support innovation commercialization.
Across three video sessions, Matej Kliman (Bohemian Center), Nisrine Haddad (SADER & Associates), Pauline Aad (Notre Dame University), Sarah Chahine (Lebanese International University), and Evan Fakhoury (Lebanese American University) shared practical insights on intellectual property protection, research commercialization, and the challenges of bringing university innovations to market.
The discussions highlighted the importance of practical IP tools such as lab notebooks, Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), examined Lebanon's technology transfer landscape and intellectual property framework, and emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between researchers, universities, legal experts, and technology transfer professionals. Together, these sessions demonstrate how effective IP management and technology transfer can help turn research into real-world impact.
